[Savannah] Just in Case

She gave Aiden and Sam one last wave, thanking them for the ride home.  As she watched the tail lights in the distance, her ever present smile slipped off her face and she sighed heavily, unlocking the door and pushing it open.  She considered for a moment before locking the door behind her, leaning her back against it and swallowing hard.

It hadn't gone quite the way she had expected.

The question had surprised her.  All of the questions Wendy asked had surprised her.

"So you have fucked her?"

She almost expected him to deny it, though she was happy to hear him answer in the affirmative.  It served to remind her that it hadn't all just been a dream.  The next question stung nearly as much as it had surprised her.

"Oh.  Then.... why do you keep coming back?"

He paused and her heart stopped for a moment as she looked at him.  He'd told her she was different, and she believed him with all her heart.  His soft words to Wendy made her wonder if it had been another line.

"I think maybe Wendy and I need to discuss this apart from here."

She just nodded and smiled, offering her home for the night if it was needed.  His response further sent her heart plummeting, as she nodded and left before she could tear up.  She'd promised she would do nothing to come between him and his family, and it was a promise she intended to keep.  No matter the pain it caused her in the meantime.

She kicked off her boots and made her way into the kitchen, fingers working at the laces of her dress.  She let it drop to the floor at the foot of the stairs, before setting water on to boil.  She prepared her favorite tea and made her way up the stairs.  She slipped out of her petticoats and unhooked her corset with one hand, letting them drop to the floor behind her.  She set the tray next to her bed, examining herself in the full length mirror for a moment, a faint smile crossing her lips before she pulled the black satin boxers and shirt out of her drawer.  She dressed quickly and slid into bed, pulling the covers up to her chin as she flipped the television on, still fascinated by the new technology he'd given her.

Watching the hot steam rise from her tea, she gave a soft sigh.  She slid from her bed and padded back down the stairs, ignoring the clothes.  She peeked outside, flipping the outside light on and unlocking the door.

She murmured softly to herself as she made her way back up the stairs, "Just in case.  Just in case he comes..."
